Air: Assessment - Targets achieved

By enrolling in the Business Energy Agency's programme, companies can conclude an energy and CO2 target agreement with the Swiss federal government. SFS has been a member of the St. Gall-Appenzell Group since 1999. In June 2004 SFS was awarded a CO2 certificate confirming the active reduction of CO2 emissions and the optimisation of energy efficiency.

We can positively influence atmospheric pollutants through the circulation and treatment of toluene.

SOX emissions (acid rain) arising from refuse, heating oil, natural gas and effluent were reduced by approx. 400 kg compared with the previous year. However, SOX emissions arising from electricity increased by more than 4½ tonnes as a result of rising consumption.

The picture is similar for NOx emissions: emissions from natural gas, methanol, refuse, heating oil and effluent declined by almost 600 kg, while those from electricity increased by some 1 300 kg.

Unfortunately, NMVOCs increased by 8+ tonnes, mainly as a result of higher consumption of solvents, degreasing agents and perchlor.
