Emergency telephones

Emergency telephones are provided for personnel at 20 different locations in the event
of emergencies. The caller is immediately connected with central emergency services in St. Gall at the push of a button. There the next available ambulance is immediately mobilised. A sophisticated system enables the emergency services to identify via display the emergency telephone on the SFS site from which the call is being made, and thus to organise an ambulance which is also familiar with the approach routes. The emergency telephone is compatible with the emergency services' pre-set series of questions. We thus gain valuable time. "Unfortunately", this system has already proved its worth on a number of occasions. The operation of the emergency telephones is tested monthly.

Employees are systematically instructed in actuating the alarm, taking immediate, life-saving action, evacuation and meeting points. All employees are provided with an "emergency card" in credit card format. All visitors are also provided with appropriate emergency rules. Outside companies are made aware of possible hazards and the relevant response in advance of their employment on the site. They sign the relevant SFS guideline.

A special personal surveillance system was installed at the end of 2003 for employees working alone.
