Construction projects in 2008

SFS intec again completed major construction projects at various sites in 2008. With these extensive investments in the expansion of our infrastructure we aim to create the operating conditions for ensuring the optimal fulfilment of a very wide range of customer needs.

Office and manufacturing premises in Canada

Since the beginning of 2008 the business activities of our Market Organisation in Canada have been conducted from new premises in Waterdown, Ontario.

The new premises have been built on an 11'500 m² site. They consist of a two-storey office unit and a single-storey manufacturing and storage unit, with one storey covering a surface area of 2'800 m².

The Canadian Market Organisation has some 30 employees and in 2007 generated sales of 12.3 million Canadian dollars. The manufacturing processes include injection moulding, assembling sealing washers, coating and packaging. More than 200 customers in Canada are currently supplied from the new site.

The new building represents a clear commitment to the business activities of SFS intec in Canada. It enables personnel to respond even faster and more effectively to customers’ requirements and to optimize service quality.

Logistics hub in Exeter

The expanded premises in Exeter, Pennsylvania, were ready for occupation in January 2008. The logistics services of the FasteningSystems Division are combined in this service centre.

Expansion work started in spring 2007 and involved enlarging the building from its existing 5'110 m2 to 7'432 m2. Surface treatment operations such as wet coating and e-coating, as well as fabricating, packaging, storage and dispatch are handled in the service centre. The expanded storage facilities provide space for 3 388 pallet bays and a further 1'500 high-bay rack storage spaces.

On completion of the move, Exeter becomes the central distribution hub for FasteningSystems products. The four other service centres in the USA as well as the Market Organisation in Canada are supplied from here. The consolidation of the storage facilities and dispatch activities at a single location will improve productivity and customer service.

Manufacturing and storage premises in Sweden

At the beginning of 2007 it was decided to expand manufacturing and storage capacity in Strängnäs, Sweden, with a new building. The objective was to replace the old, flat, cold storage premises and link the new building to the existing offices and manufacturing premises. This was intended to eliminate long conveying distances between the storage and manufacturing premises as well as improving productivity and flexibility.

The new building, which was ready for occupation at the beginning of 2008, has a floor area of 3'000 m2 and is 10 metres high. In addition to the increased manufacturing area, space was also created for 1'600 pallets and numerous cardboard boxes.

The expanded infrastructure enables our Market Organisation in Sweden to augment its range of services in line with customers’ needs. By combining storage, manufacturing and office premises on a single site, we are now even better able to provide enhanced benefits for our customers.
