NEW DYNAMIC HINGE COLOURWAY OPTIONS FOR OUTWARD OPENING DOORS

A new split colour hinge has been launched by SFS Intec, specifically designed to fit outward opening flush fit timber and composite external doorsets.

Various colour options for the Dynamic 2D-F
The new version of the popular Dynamic 2D-F hinge provides door manufacturers and installers with the option to improve the aesthetics of their outward opening flush fit doorsets, where the frame and the door are often different colours.

Nigel Wood, SFS intec’s hinge technology product manager explains, Outward opening doors are still popular throughout the UK but there is very little choice when it comes to hinges. The choice of hinge makes a massive difference to the overall quality and appearance of the completed doorset installation.

Home owners and social housing tenants are given the choice of colour for their external doors but the frames are almost always white. This means that single colour hinges will not co-ordinate.

To provide a solution, we have launched a new version of the Dynamic 2D-F, which is specifically designed for outward opening doors and is available in a wide range of RAL colours for both the barrel and the sash plate.

“This specialist product has been developed in response to strong demand from doorset manufacturers, installers and social housing providers, who can now benefit from the strength, adjustability, operational reliability and security that this advanced hinge design brings.”

Based on the established Dynamic 2D hinge, which has rapidly grown to become one of the market-leading hinges for PVC-U and twin rebated composite doorsets, Dynamic 2D-F shares the same aesthetic and installation principles to perfectly complement fabricator product range and production processes.

NEW HINGE BRINGS DYNAMIC BENEFITS TO FLUSH FIT ENTRANCE DOORS

Flush fit timber and composite door manufacturers can now improve the performance and aesthetics of their doorsets with the development of a new hinge by SFS intec for its Dynamic hinge range.

With up to 62 per cent of all timber doors in the UK being flush-fit, SFS intec has launched Dynamic 2D-F to ensure suppliers of these doorsets do not miss out on the strength, adjustability, operational reliability and security benefits that its advanced hinge designs bring.

Based on the established Dynamic 2D hinge, which has rapidly grown to become one of the market-leading hinges for PVC-U and twin rebated composite doorsets, Dynamic 2D-F shares the same aesthetic and installation principles to perfectly complement fabricator product range and production processes.

The matching aesthetics ensure fabricators can benefit from consistent good looks across their door range and the way Dynamic 2D-F is packaged and suited to modern automated fabrication means a seamless integration.

One of the key advantages that this new hinge offers is its height adjustability for improved weather tightness. Unlike the majority of hinges for flush fit doors, Dynamic 2D-F allows the door sash to raised and lowered in height making it ideal for achieving a good weather seal on low threshold doors.

Major innovation comes with the way the hinge fixes to the door sash. The fixing plate is shaped to attach to the edge of the door sash either into a routed detail or fixed directly for finishing using an aluminium edge plate. And the hinge is suitable for use with both PVC-U and timber outerframes.

Dynamic 2D-F offers the potential for doorsets with excellent strength characteristics too. Prototypes have been through indicative testing which show the hinge should have no problem working as part of a PAS-024 Secured by Design standard doorset. The hinge remained intact and operational even after being subjected to forces exceeding 6kN, suggesting a comfortable safety margin for the final production hinges.

Nigel Wood, SFS intec’s hinge technology product manager says, “The choice of hinge makes a massive difference to overall quality of the completed doorset installation. Dynamic 2D-F is technically superior to the alternatives hinges currently available for flush fit doors and we anticipate strong interest as doorset manufacturers strive to maintain a competitive edge in today’s challenging market.”

Precision engineered in Europe like all SFS intec hinges, Dynamic 2D-F is available in a range of durable colour finishes including polished chrome and gold as standard.

NEW HINGE OFFERS OPTIMUM ADJUSTABILITY FOR INTERIOR DOORS

Leading European hardware manufacturer SFS intec has developed a new version of its premium quality Cab-R corner mounted door hinge which offers greater adjustability for the perfect installation.

Unlike the majority of hinges for flush-fit interior doors, the Cab-R 3D is adjustable in three dimensions so the door sash height can be raised or lowered and the sash can be adjusted laterally and for gasket pressure.

The Cab-R pivot hinge is ideally suited to contemporary interiors where the visual appeal of the doorset is maximised. It gives architects and designers the opportunity to create stylish interior doors for applications such as office buildings, hotels and prestigious public buildings.

The hinge allows the door sash to open to a full 180 degrees and is designed to be a subtle and almost invisible feature of the door, neatly tucked away in the top and bottom corners of the door frame so no hinges are visible at eye level.

It is precision engineered to offer exceptional operational performance. It has successfully achieved 200,000 cycles with a door weighing 80kg and it features self-lubricating bushes to guarantee a smooth, silent movement during its long service life.

Two versions of the Cab-R are available for surface or flush mounting and the pair of hinges can be used of left or right handed doorsets to simplify the supply chain. The product is also available in two finishes as standard – matt chrome and brass lacquered.

Combining the technically advanced hinge with appropriate door sets also delivers enhanced security as the PVC-U unit has the capability of achieving the PAS 24 standard.

Nigel continues, “The Dynamic 2D hinge offers further installation benefits, with a new installation approach that allows the door to be installed by a single operative. The hinge design also enables the door to be fitted using more traditional methods too – depending on which method is preferred.”

The Dynamic 2D hinge has also been designed to remedy the problems of sagging doors which reduces the need for costly call backs improving performance and customer satisfaction in the long term.

DYNAMIC 2D HELPS REHAU FRENCH DOORS MAKE PAS-024 GRADE

SFS intec’s Dynamic 2D hinge has once again proved its excellent strength and security credentials as part of a successful PAS-024 tested doorset.

The hinge was used in PAS-024 testing by REHAU who incorporated it into French doors fabricated using their S706, 60mm and 70mm systems. REHAU undertook the testing to ensure its customers in the social housing sector in particular could have peace of mind when specifying and installing doors of all types.

The vital security standard for residential doors and a requirement for Secured by Design status, PAS-024 involves a whole doorset test which requires all the components to combine effectively in resisting mechanical and manual intervention tests. Dynamic 2D was selected as the hinge for REHAU’s French doorset test following its excellent performance on their standard residential doorsets.

SFS intec’s product manager for hinge technology says, “We are extremely pleased that the Dynamic 2D has helped REHAU pass the PAS-024 test for their French doors. The hinge is designed to withstand extreme forces and this testing shows once again how it can play a crucial part in an enhanced security doorset.”

In addition to offering excellent strength and long term performance reliability, the Dynamic 2D provides a number of benefits to fabricators and installers. The hinge is available in eight standard colours and it is slimline in design to improve the visual appeal of residential doors. Doors fitted with Dynamic 2D hinges are also easy, safe and quick to install.

DYNAMIC 2D OPENS DOOR TO EASY SECURITY AND STYLE UPGRADES

Door installers and maintenance specialists can offer their retail and commercial customers a simple, excellent value security and aesthetic makeover with the Dynamic 2D hinge from SFS intec.

The hinge is a durable, slim fitting hinge which can be retro-fitted to the majority of mainstream profile systems. A variety of bespoke sash plates have been developed to ensure the perfect fit for leading profile systems including the REHAU Edge and Deceuninck Zendow.

The Dynamic 2D’s design means it works extremely well as a replacement for existing door hinges. According to SFS intec’s hinge technology product manager Nigel Wood, that offers potential for those door installers who may be seeing fewer doorset replacements.

“The life expectancy of today’s PVC-U and composite doorsets is so good that many recent customers will not require a complete replacement for perhaps 10-20 years,” says Nigel. “However, many customers may be interested to learn that they can have a hinge upgrade which will not only enhance the look of their doors but also improve their operational and security standard.”

The Dynamic 2D’s enhanced security potential is demonstrated through its use within PAS-023 and PAS-024 rated doorsets. Although not capable of reaching these standards in isolation, the hinge’s performance is clearly indicated in tests with one leading PVC-U profile doorset in which it remained largely operational and intact when subjected to a force double that required under PAS-024.

Beyond security, SFS intec has also recognised the growing demand for doorsets to change in line with the latest home décor tastes. For those installers not already offering door ‘style makeovers’, this opens up a potential new revenue stream.

The Dynamic 2D hinge provides a range of standard colour finishes including matt silver, dark brown and black. Combined with a slim, modern sash plate design, this adds a contemporary feel to all types of PVC-U doorsets.

Nigel continues, “The current slow down in the housing market suggests that many homeowners will be staying put and investing in their current home rather than moving. Why not offer these retail customers the opportunity to invest in their doors if they’re not yet ready to replace? Similarly, social housing specifiers may be interested in hardware upgrades which are popular with tenants as part of interim maintenance programmes.

“It is a win-win proposition - whilst customers may choose to freshen up the appearance of their aging PVC-U doors, by fitting new hardware they will also enhance the security and performance at the same time.”

Designing bespoke sash plates for Rehau and other leading profile companies offers easier fabrication as the sash plates are tailored to fit the profile - improving the overall aesthetic and the manufacturing efficiency.

“The Dynamic 2D offers fabricators time-saving benefits as the hinge system is quick to fit with easy preparation of attachment holes - cutting at least five minutes production time per door.”

Available in a range of standard colours including white, brown, black, gold, caramel and chrome to colour match with each profile style, the Dynamic 2D hinge offers further aesthetic appeal.

SFS INTEC DYNAMIC 2D SPEEDS UP THE PROCESS

Leading trade window and door supplier Sierra Windows has increased manufacturing efficiency at its 50,000 sq ft Devon factory by 40% on all its PVC door applications, with its switch to the Dynamic 2D hinge from SFS intec playing a key role.

The Dynamic 2D hinge from SFS intec has enables Sierra windows to break down door fabrication into three stages, creating a smooth, quicker flowline through production rather than fitting the door hinges in one lengthy process. The new approach is divided into preparing the holes, then fitting the hinge to the door sash and outerframe separately which improves manufacturing efficiency and productivity.

Using the new hinge has also improved the efficiency of the in-house training programme as employees can now be trained on one aspect of the manufacturing process rather then the whole process.

Bob Campbell, Production Manager at Sierra Windows, says, “Previously we experienced a bottleneck effect with door orders. Since using the Dynamic 2D hinge and creating an efficient production line we can meet demand quicker, improving customer satisfaction and the overall production productivity.”

In testing, the technically advanced hinge from SFS intec easily meets the requirements of PAS 24 testing in appropriate door sets, offering superior door security through its robust, quality design. The Dynamic 2D hinge also delivers enhanced aesthetics with softer sightlines and a range of standard colours including white, brown, black, gold, caramel and chrome to colour match with each profile style.

Nigel Wood, hinge technology product manager at SFS intec, says, “Making small changes can have a big difference and the experience at Sierra Windows is a perfect example. Just switching to using the Dynamic 2D hinge has helped improve manufacturing efficiency by 40%, which ultimately improves customer satisfaction as door orders can be processed quicker.

“The advanced hinge has also been designed to remedy the problems of sagging doors reducing the need for costly call backs highlighting the extensive benefits of the Dynamic 2D hinge throughout manufacture, installation and long term performance.”

DYNAMIC 2D HINGE WITHSTANDS DOUBLE THE FORCE

Independent security tests carried out on PVC-U doors fitted with SFS intec’s new Dynamic 2D hinge have demonstrated that the hinge will still function after being subjected to a force approaching 9kN, double the maximum force usually applied to doors in PAS-24 tests.

This remarkable performance was achieved during a recent independent test, which involved a PVC-U door manufactured using one of the industry’s most widely used profile systems.

An earlier PAS-24 test also proved the Dynamic 2D’s excellent strength characteristics with another leading profile system. With the hinge’s popularity increasing amongst leading systems companies, SFS intec’s technical team is fully confident of a universally high performance standard.

BS: PAS 24-1: 1999, enhanced security performance requirements for door assemblies, is the minimum police requirement for Secured by Design dwellings. Passing this test means that a particular door, frame, lock and hardware set has withstood a series of physical tests based on common methods of burglary.

For fabricators using all types of profile, the Dynamic 2D hinge allows the creation of the optimum PVC-U door. The hinge’s slimline appearance combined with its superior strength characteristics meets the needs of a market that demands the best looking doors, but which is becoming ever more familiar with initiatives such as Secured by Design.

Nigel Wood of SFS intec says, “By using the Dynamic 2D hinge, fabricators can provide vital security assurances to specifiers, customers and insurance companies. The hinge also allows fabricators to produce a robust door which has elegant aesthetics to give good sightlines, potentially giving them an important marketing edge over their competitors.”

Available in a variety of colours, which include white, black, light brown, dark brown, plus polished and satin gold and chrome, the Dynamic 2D hinge offers fabricators an ideal solution for the retail and commercial markets.
